Rain

1- Record rainfall

Tuesday, Oklahoma City set a record for rainfall in the month of August. We broke the record that had been on the books since 1906.

I heard someone say yesterday, “I wish it would quit raining.”

It is amazing how soon we forget…

Last August, we ended a three-year drought. That month was the ninth wettest month on record.  Just one month before in July of 2007 we were wondering if it would ever rain again. Ponds were dried up and many lakes were dangerously low. Times were seemingly desperate.

Then the rains came. We celebrated a few days. Then we forgot.

I am so thankful for the rain!

2- Praying for rain

Today as I was praying I caught myself asking for rain. Not physical rain, at least I don’t think, but spiritual rain.  It was kind of odd how the words just came out of my mouth. I guess it was one of those times when the Holy Spirit was praying for me. The Bible does say when we do not know what to pray the Holy Spirit will pray for us. I guess this was one of those times.

An Old Testament minor prophet named Hosea, an odd sort of character, spoke to the nation of Israel when they were in a spiritual drought. He told them the answer was to “Sow for themselves righteousness, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the Lord, until he comes and showers righteousness on you (10:12).”

I don’t know if I’m experiencing a spiritual drought. Actually, I feel as good as I’ve ever felt about my spiritual walk. With that said, I am feeling God wanting to take me to a new level spiritually. I am feeling like he wants to open the windows of heaven and shower me with spiritual blessings.

I am ready!

“Lord, send a rain!”  This is my prayer.

3- Retreat

Next Thursday, our team of pastors and staff take our annual retreat. It is a 24-hour period in which we take time to hear from God. Last year was amazing! I believe this year is going to be evey bit as special.

I invite you to pray with me that this will be an incredible time for our staff to hear from God.

I have asked the staff that over the next seven days they pray daily, “God I want you to do a great work in me.”

So many times I am so concerned about doing a great work for God that I miss God wanting to do a great work in me. My heart is burning for a deeper work of His Spirit to bring repentance for attempting to reach greatness instead of abiding in the presence of Greatness.

I have high expectations for this retreat and trust that you will begin to pray with me.
