met·tle - courage and fortitude or giving one’s best

1- Sunday

There is no greater miracle than your story of God’s grace!

This past weekend there were four people who committed their life to Christ (marked the communication card as such). This is wonderful!

Powerful!

The greatest miracle!

I believe prayer works. Each Sunday morning at 8:30 am a group of people have been praying for people to commit their lives to Christ and for the making of disciples. I know God is honoring the desires of this small band of warriors pleading for the souls of others.

This people have the courage to engage in the greatest battle for eternity, the battle for the souls of fellow humans. It works.

2- Swimming

I have been blown away with the amazing feats of our American swimmers. There are so many heroic moments. Dara Torres collected three medals as a mother and at forty-one years of age. She was told it was not obtainable. Jason Lezak’s incredible effort, coming from behind and beat the French. Michael Phelps’s eight gold, seven in world record time and one seemingly impossible finish to win by one one-hundredth of a second.

Inspiring!

The mettle with which they have given themselves brings a question to my mind, “What if I give the same gusto to living for God as they give to swimming?”

Why not?

Why not give the same intensity to a life in God as they give to swimming? They receive a medal that will tarnish and fade. I will receive a crown of life that does not fade and can never be taken away.

Inspiring!!

3- Pain of Disappoint

I have been wrestling with the pain of disappointment many Olympians will face. Of the 3,806-world class athletes competing in the Beijing Olympics only a few hundred will walk away with a medal. All have come with expectations to medal and only a small percentage will receive the prize.

When expectations and reality do not collide there is the pain of disappointment. In moments like these is when we must realize the real winners are those who have competed with mettle.

Have I acted with courage? Have I given my best?

Some will walk away with a medal around their neck in Beijing.

Everyone can walk away with mettle in his or her heart.
